BOSL NEWS – Giving Back to the Community
To All BOSL Players,
This past Sunday at Sherwood, the BOSL held a Skills Camp for members of the Special Olympics Softball Programs (Development and Competitive) – It was one of those days where we had a vision of what we were aiming for and that vision was far exceeded when all was said and done. Roughly 25 athletes from the Special Olympics Program took part in what was a memorable day for the BOSL Players and their families and, more importantly, a memorable day for the athletes themselves.
We rotated the players through skills stations that were manned by BOSL Members. These stations were base running, pitching/throwing, catching/fielding and of course, batting. Seeing the smiles and excitement on the player’s faces as they learned new skills and showed significant progress throughout the day will be something I never forget. Towards the end of the day, we broke into mini-games on each field and though the BOSL got our butts kicked, we are hoping to do better next time! The day ended with a gathering around the pizza station and with each member of the Special Olympics team taking home a BOSL Jersey and Hat of their choice. Oddly enough, the Better Bitters uniforms were left on the table!
To say that this day was a total team effort would be a complete understatement. A special thanks to Cate Hawkins and her crew from the Special Olympics for allowing us to put on the Skills Camp. Their co-operation and support was immeasurable. I also wanted to thank each and every one of the BOSL Members who were there yesterday. Their hard work and creativity in running the stations, and the compassion and caring they showed throughout the day, was a testament to just how terrific our league and its members are! Each of you did our league proud!
Greg Moore, Karen Moore, Evan Moore, Wayne McSpadden, Greg Brown, Cathy Brown, Paul Jamieson, Tracey Jamieson, Spencer Jamieson, Matty Jamieson (the BOSL MVP in the big game!), Dave Geneau, Alexis and Abigail Geneau, Stephanie Kotani-Geneau, Fred Kotani, Brian Blume, Pam Blume, Pat Blume, Nicole Blume, Peter Woodfine, Cathy Robert, Jim Hindley, Kim Hindley and their dedicated crew of students (Sarah Hindley, Sabrina Kavanagh, Jenna Nicholls and Jessica Randall)
In closing, a friendly reminder that the Burlington Blues Competitive Team will be joining us for a fun exhibition game/re-match at our Mid-Season Tournament this weekend. The game will run from 12:00-12:45 during our usual break period. Let’s fill the stands and make it another day to remember!
Yours truly,
Mike Porkolab
